GBIF.ES online workshop: Standardization and publication of biodiversity data from polar regions

This theoretical-practical workshop aims to improve the capacity of participants to prepare and publish biodiversity data using GBIF procedures and portals as a common thread. Aspects related to the quality, cleaning and purification of data, standardization and publication will be addressed through the Integrated Publishing Toolkit (IPT), as well as the preparation of manuscripts for the publication of data papers.

The workshop is organized by GBIF.ES in collaboration with POLARCSIC and ECOBIODIV, and is especially aimed at researchers who handle data collected in the polar regions.

Registration deadline: 9 April 2021

Course dates: 12 - 26 May 2021

Spanish Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS-Spain)

The Spanish Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS-Spain) is the national committee of APECS in Spain. APECS-Spain was founded to link the students, researchers and educators interested in polar regions and that develop their activity in the Spanish territory. We pretend therefore, to stimulate the interdisciplinary scientific collaboration and scientific dissemination to promote the future leaders in polar research and polar education in Spain
The main aims of APECS-Spain are to:

  • Disseminate the polar research of early career scientists
  • Facilitate networking to develop new scientific collaborations among members
  • Provide tools and training to gain and improve communication skills, teamwork, organization of events, to promote development of future leaders in polar investigation and outreach in Spain.

From the association, we encourage all of polar early career researchers to contact with us. If you are interested in APECS, you can become a member at the website: https://apecsspain.wordpress.com/

Webinars: "Café con Hielo"

"Café con hielo" is a series of dissemination talks that will cover current issues on polar science. The activity comes from the collaboration between the platform POLARCSIC (from the Spanish National Research Council) and APECS-Spain, with the aim of approaching polar science to the general public.

The series will include 6 sessions, all of them during Spring 2021. In each session, two scientists will give a flash talk about different perspectives of the session topic and afterwards, there will be an open round table, conducted by a chair related to the topic. The idea is to promote the participation of the audience with questions and comments to create a conversation among all the participants.

The activities will be broadcasted live on Youtube and will be in Spanish, so we encourage all our Spanish speaker colleagues from all over the world to join us!

Session 1: 23/03/2021: El cambio climático en los polos

Next Session: 13/04/2021: Ecosistemas marinos
